Phytoplankton forms the base of many marine ecosystems. When plankton is affected by shifts in the available nutrient ratios of nitrogen and to phosphor, it responds by altering its biomolecule composition. Julia Grosse studies the effects of different nutrient limitations on the dynamics of biomolecule synthesis and composition in North Sea plankton. She also evaluates the consequences for phytoplankton food quality investigates how zooplankton copes with low food quality.
