Fleur van der Valk’s research focuses on the role of inflammatory pathways in atherosclerosis, a lipid-driven disease affecting the arterial wall, which has the effect of hardening or narrowing the arteries. Valk investigates the use of imaging in visualising inflammatory activity in patients with atherosclerosis, the impact of lipids on atherosclerotic inflammation and the therapeutic value of targeted anti-inflammatory drugs for these patients.
