Little is known about the optimum criteria for referring children with a suspected growth disorder. Susanne Stalman investigates whether a pathology is indeed diagnosed in children who are referred with a suspected growth disorder and evaluates existing guidelines for monitoring growth. She also conducts a genetic analysis of newborns with low birth weights, and studies the effect of growth hormone treatment in patients with a specific growth disorder. Finally, Stalman also evaluates the validity of a questionnaire aimed at measuring the quality of life of children with growth disorders, from their own perspective and that of their parents.
