There has been a rapid expansion in the application of transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) worldwide. This is a minimally invasive technique and a firmly established alternative in cases where conventional surgery is not an option due to high surgical risk. Esther Wiegerinck has researched possible risk factors that are related to TAVI in order to identify patients who would benefit most, thereby optimising the selection procedures.
