When a woman is confronted by complications during pregnancy or childbirth (such as premature birth, high pressure or foetal distress during childbirth), the caregiver must ensure the best outcome for mother and child. Janneke van ’t Hooft investigates what the best interventions are in those cases. She does this using systematic reviews that combine the results of multiple randomised control trials (RCTs). She focuses on specific problems associated with these kinds of reviews, including the difficulty of combining different kinds of outcomes and the relative paucity of measurements of long-term outcomes.
