Inequality plays a prominent role in both public and scholarly debate. In his research, Sander Steijn investigates the ideas people have about inequality, focusing specifically on the concept of meritocracy. The aim is to increase our understanding of how people perceive and judge inequality and meritocracy and how these perceptions and judgements relate to how they think about society as a whole. His studies are based on Dutch and cross-national survey data.
