Plants constantly face changing environments that can be hostile. One strategy for adapting to such challenges consists of transiently modulating protein activity by attaching small molecules to proteins. These modifier molecules can also be proteins themselves, like the Small Ubiquitin-like Modifier (SUMO). In her research, Magdalena Mazur investigates how SUMO modification controls gene regulation in Arabidopsis thaliana.
