Maurice Topper explores ways of increasing the effectivity of preventative treatments for depression and anxiety disorders. Recently there has been a growing interest in a transdiagnostic approach to treating such disorders, which recognises that a number of different cognitive and behavioural processes are involved. Topper suggests that a transdiagnostic approach could also be fruitful in preventing these disorders. He specifically selects worry and rumination as risk factors that can be tackled to decrease people’s risk of developing depression and anxiety disorders.
