In his research Boele Bonthuis studies labour markets and pension systems and the way these interact. He looks at the effects of fiscal changes in an overlapping generations model and the intergenerational effects of unemployment on the accumulation of pension entitlements. He also looks at effects of the global financial crisis on the relationship between the unemployment and job vacancy rate (Beveridge curve) in the EU area.
