In his research, Nick de Jong focuses on two topics related to the behaviour of electrons in reduced dimensions. He investigates self-assembled nanowire structures in one dimensional metallic systems, which provide the perfect playground for studying the smallest conceivable conducting channels. He also studies the surface states of three dimensional topological insulators.
