Ankle trauma can result in a lesion of talar cartilage and bone, known as an osteochondral defect. The lesion can be caused by a single traumatic event, or by multiple less intense incidents. Maartje Zengerink summarises and evaluates the effectiveness of treatment strategies for osteochondral talar defects. Other aims include measuring the dimension of such defects in order to develop a focal implant.
