Tjitske Holtrop’s research focuses on the evaluation of the Dutch civil-military mission in Uruzgan, a southern province in Afghanistan, between 2006 and 2010. An Afghan research organisation was commissioned to evaluate the mission, and Holtrop investigates how this evaluation was done in practice. She also investigates how Uruzgan came to be known in the context of war, linguistic and cultural differences, infrastructural disconnections, expectations for and of Uruzgan and several research technologies.
