Since the introduction of combination antiretroviral therapy, the incidence of HIV-associated dementia, opportunistic infections and tumours has decreased. However, the frequently reported milder forms of HIV-associated cognitive impairment remain a concern. Tanja Su explores the prevalence of and risk factors for cognitive impairment in middle-aged and older HIV patients, assessing various brain alterations and associated risk factors using MRI.
