For patients with type 1 diabetes, continuous glucose monitoring provides accurate real-time blood glucose measurements that enable them to to maintain glycaemic control. The artificial pancreas, a system that automates insulin administration through closed-loop operation, holds the promise of improving glycaemic control with less effort on the part of the patient. Jort Kropff investigates the efficacy of the use of artificial pancreas systems in real-life situations.
