What potential do certain tissues have to increase the rate at which they burn calories? This is the central question of Lonneke Bahler’s research. She focuses specifically on brown adipose tissue (also known as brown fat), which could possibly play a pivotal role in the management and prevention of obesity by increasing energy expenditure. She also looks at the potential of the colon as an energy dissipating tissue.
