The behaviour of large collections of even the simplest interacting quantum components are hard to predict. One aim of condensed matter physics is to develop methods to understand collective behaviour in physically meaningful interacting systems of quantum components such as spins. In his research, Ian Eliëns builds on existing methods to effectively describe the behaviour of quantum spin chains.
