Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) is a severe disorder resulting in haemolytic anaemia and thrombocytopenia. It is caused by a deficiency of a specific protease known as ADAMTS13. Acquired TTP is due to the development of auto-antibodies directed towards ADAMTS13 in formerly healthy individuals. The aim of Fabian Verbij’s research is to increase our understanding of the aetiology of auto-immune TTP.
