A national health insurance scheme was introduced in Ghana in 2003. Although it has proved succesful, active participation and retention do remain a challenge. In addition, there are concerns about poor quality healtcare provided by accredited facilities and delayed reimbursements. Robert Alhassan investigates ways of improving healthcare quality and worker motivation to promote trust in national health insurance.
