Chronic solvent-induced encephalopathy is a disease that is caused by frequent and long-term exposure to organic solvents. The aims of Evelien van Valen's research are to report on the incidence of CSE in the Netherlands from 1997 to 2017, evaluate a screening programme for Dutch painters, improve the neuropsychological part of the diagnostic process by establishing standardised, valid and detailed guidelines that contribute to the international harmonisation of diagnostics and to study the course of the disease and prognostic factors of the neuropsychological functioning of patients.
