The gravity model is widely used for explaining bilateral exports. However, the empirical and theoretical versions of the gravity model are entangled, hampering interpretation and identification of driving variables in the model. Rutger Teulings discusses different aspects of the gravity model and proposes solutions to untangle them. This allows him to evaluate the impact of four different Brexit scenarios.
