As of late, more patients are being diagnosed with small and non-palpable tumours, especially since the introduction and improvement of breast cancer screening programmes. These tumours are preferably treated with breast conserving treatment, consisting of breast conserving surgery (BCS) followed by radiotherapy of the breast. Natasja Janssen focuses on optimising planning, intra-operative guidance and evaluation of surgical outcome of BCS, with the final goal of improving the surgical outcome of patients with non-palpable breast cancer.
