The evaluation of microcirculation in different clinical scenarios has been made possible by the development of hand-held videomicroscopes. The assessment of microcirculation could give meaningful information about tissue oxygenation and the behaviour of distinctive microvascular territories before and after resuscitation. Vanina Kanoore Edul focuses on the quantitative assessment of microcirculation in healthy subjects and in shock states with a special reference to the behaviour of the mesenteric territories and the response to different therapeutic approaches.
