Reyer van der Vlies makes an ethical and legal analysis of what he refers to the ‘economisation’ of cultural policy in the Netherlands. The government actively promotes cultural entrepreneurship among subsidised cultural institutions, while cutting back on subsidies for art and culture. By forcing these cultural institutions to relay more on market competition, the government aims to find more public support for its policy.
