Freshwater stream restoration projects aimed at recreating suitable aquatic habitats for flora and fauna are not always successful. Until now it remains unclear why populations of aquatic macroinvertebrates do not recover as quickly as anticipated. Judith Westveer investigates why restored streams are not recolonized by diverse groups of macroinvertebrates.
