With the advent of online learning management systems big datasets of learner’s digital traces have become available for the first time. The new field of Learning Analytics aims to analyse this data and use it to optimise learning and the environments in which it occurs. To provide a safe path for implementing scaled Learning Analytics services based on novel data sources, Alan Berg defines a lifecycle with validated stepping stones.
