Modern computer systems are constructed using commodity multi-core processors. Multiple applications running simultaneously on a multi-core system compete for shared memory, causing inter-application interference. Jun Xiao studies interference in shared caches and investigates aspects that are influenced by the increasing complexity of the underlying hardware and software for multi-core systems.
