Antibiotic treatment is becoming less and less effective due to the rise of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. Despite efforts of scientists, no new antibiotics have been discovered in the past decades. To better target bacteria with antibiotics, and in-depth knowledge of how they grow and divide is required. Nils Meiressonne aims to contribute to this knowledge by using Förster Resonance Energy Transfer, a fluorescence-based method that can be used to study bacterial cell division in vivo.
