Dr Mirjam van Praag, professor of Entrepreneurship and Organisation at the University of Amsterdam's (UvA) Faculty of Economics and Business, has been nominated for appointment to the Social and Economic Council of the Netherlands (SER).

Dr Mirjam van Praag, professor of Entrepreneurship and Organisation at the University of Amsterdam's (UvA) Faculty of Economics and Business, has been nominated for appointment to the Social and Economic Council of the Netherlands (SER). The appointment will be from 1 October 2010 to 31 March 2012.

In addition to her position as professor at the UvA, Mirjam van Praag is also research director of the Amsterdam Centre for Entrepreneurship (ACE) and a researcher at the Tinbergen Institute in Amsterdam, the Max Planck Institute of Economics in Jena and the IZA Institute of Labour Market Research in Bonn.

The SER advises the cabinet and parliament on the main themes surrounding the implementation of socio-economic policy. The Council also carries out various executive and supervisory duties.

There are currently four UvA academics who are Crown-appointed members of the SER: Dr Alexander Rinnooy Kan, Dr Arnoud Boot, Dr Coen Teulings en Dr Louise Fresco. The Council has a total of 11 Crown-appointed members.
