The Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) has awarded a Vici grant to Dr Jean-Sébastien Caux, associate professor of Theoretical Physics at the University of Amsterdam (UvA).

The Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) has awarded a Vici grant to Dr Jean-Sébastien Caux, associate professor of Theoretical Physics at the University of Amsterdam (UvA). Caux will receive one million euros over the next five years to conduct research and set up his own research group.

Caux' research project is titled ‘Bethe Liquids: a new way of tackling strong correlations in and out of equilibrium'. Current experimental results for quantum magnets, ultracold atoms and nanodots are only partially understood through existing theory. In his research, Caux aims to develop a new theoretical framework that will fully identify the effects of strong interactions in low dimensional quantum condensed matter.

A total of 32 innovative scientists received a Vici grant from the NWO. The Vicis are part of the NWO Innovational Research Incentives Scheme. See the link below for more information and a list of all grants.
