On Tuesday, 17 May, the winner of the sixth edition of the Science Park New Competition will be announced during a special ceremony. Students and researchers from the University of Amsterdam (UvA), the Hogeschool van Amsterdam, University of Applied Sciences (HVA) and institutions and companies based at the Science Park were asked to submit an original, innovative and feasible idea.

On Tuesday, 17 May, the winner of the sixth edition of the Science Park New Competition will be announced during a special ceremony. Students and researchers from the University of Amsterdam (UvA), the Hogeschool van Amsterdam, University of Applied Sciences (HVA) and institutions and companies based at the Science Park were asked to submit an original, innovative and feasible idea. Five nominees from all the entries received were selected by the jury. The nominees will present their ideas by giving ‘elevator’ pitches during the ceremony. They have a chance of winning the jury prize worth €3,000 or the public prize worth €1,000.

The nominees

  • Hong Zhang et al (UvA): Longlife multifunctional catheter
  • Hugo and Marcel van Tienhoven Brinkhorst (HvA): Amorfin
  • Suzette van der Waal (ACTA): The new standard in treating oral infections
  • René Bohnsack (UvA): SuSoMo - Tackling Congestion in Amsterdam
  • Michael van der Horst et al (UvA): SUPER - Synthesis Using Phosphatase Enzyme Reaction

The jury of the Science Park New Ideas Competition 2011 is headed by Prof. Louise Fresco (UvA University Professor). The members of the jury are: Dr Jan Post ( UvA knowledge ambassador), Kees Dark (IBM Innovation & Technology Executive), Prof. Rob Kirschbaum (VP Innovation at DSM) and Prof. Dr. Hubertus Irth (dean Faculty of Science at the VU University Amsterdam).

Participation and location

Interested parties are welcome to attend the ceremony. Admission is free.

  • Time: 15:00–16:30 (room open from 14:30)
