Amsterdam is home to the University of Amsterdam (UvA) and other knowledge institutes, world-renowned cultural institutions and multinationals. The city is a magnet for free-thinking young talent. The UvA wants to offer an inspiring scheme that will allow students to get the best out of their study programme and themselves, and where they will be brought together with people who can help them. It is precisely this type of interaction that will enable the University, talented students and young researchers from home and abroad, and companies in the region to augment each others strengths and capabilities.

During the opening of University Day, the annual day for alumni of the UvA, president of the Executive Board Karel van der Toorn presented plans for a programme of excellence by means of a short film. In this film, numerous people, including University Professor and The Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) president Robbert Dijkgraaf, Amsterdam city councillor Lodewijk Asscher, international student Maja Jaakson and several representatives from the business world, express the importance of this talent programme for all parties involved.
