The University of Amsterdam will lodge an appeal with the Council of State against the ruling made by the Amsterdam District Court on 30 March regarding construction of a new University Library (UB) and study centre for the Faculty of Humanities at the Binnengasthuisterrein (BG-terrein). A number of parties appealed against the decision made by the local council, who granted the University of Amsterdam a permit to demolish one builiding and part of a second building on the BG-terrein to make construction of a new UB possible. The court considered these objections to be justified.

The UvA attaches great importance to the new library and study centre as an important part of the university campus that is being realised in the city centre and will therefore appeal against the court ruling.
