Prof. Dymph van den Boom, Rector Magnificus of the University of Amsterdam (UvA), opened trading on the NYSE Euronext Amsterdam with the traditional gong-stroke in the morning of Tuesday 5 July. She did this on behalf of John Kaemingk, CEO of Optiver, the financial derivatives trading firm. Optiver is donating five years of financial support to UvA ‘teaching and research in the field of financial markets. To mark this initiative, Optiver was asked to open trading.

Building on the tradition of Amsterdam as a major location for financial activities, Optiver wants to support academic research and education in financial markets. This includes topics such as pricing in the financial markets, the presence of liquidity, trading strategies, but also incentives for product innovations such as structured finance and new derivatives. Research and teaching in this field takes place within the Finance Group of the Faculty of Economics and Business at the UvA.
