Troy. City, Homer and Turkey

The exhibition ‘Troy. City, Homer and Turkey’ tells the story of Troy and shows how the significance of the city keeps changing.

It will be the first time that so many archaeological, cultural and historical highlights from Troy can be seen in a Dutch exhibition, with more than 300 pieces loaned from collectors in the Netherlands and abroad. The highlight is a large marble bust of Zeus from the Archaeological Museum in Istanbul. 

Dates 

The exhibition will run from 7 December 2012 to 5 May 2013. The Trojan Horse will form part of the Amsterdam Light Festival from 7 December 2012 to 20 January 2013.

400 years of diplomatic relations Turkey-Netherlands

The exhibition concludes the festive celebration of 400 years of diplomatic relations between Turkey and the Netherlands. The reception of the history of Troy by various cultures, especially Turkish culture, during the 19th and 20th centuries will form a major part of the exhibition.

The Allard Pierson Museum

The Allard Pierson Museum is the archaeological museum of the UvA. The museum shows the influence of ancient civilisations on contemporary European culture. There will be special lectures, tours, courses, educational materials and trips to Turkey to mark this special exhibition on Troy.
