Michel Bergh has been appointed the director of the pan-Amsterdam Technology Transfer Office (TTO) as of 1 November 2013. The TTO has been established as a joint centre of expertise to serve the University of Amsterdam (UvA), VU University Amsterdam (VU), the UvA’s Academic Medical Center (AMC-UvA) and the VU Medical Center (VUmc).
Dr Michel L.E. Bergh has directed the Technology Transfer Office at Rotterdam’s Erasmus MC since 2009, where he headed the launch of various start-up companies and had set up an Incubator for new businesses. Prior to this, Bergh worked in the biopharmaceutical industry, primarily in the United States, in positions in R&D and business development. Since his return to the Netherlands several years ago, he has held various management positions.
Bergh studied Chemistry and took his doctorate in biochemical research at the VU. He subsequently did postdoc work at the Cancer Center of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the US.
The pan-Amsterdam TTO pools the expertise of the formerly separate TTOs of its participating partners, establishing a high-calibre centre of expertise where scientists can turn for knowledgeable support in the protection, defence and marketing of their intellectual property. Additionally, the TTO can assist staff in concluding education and research contracts with external parties, with grant applications and with setting up and taking part in new ventures and spin-off companies.
