The following statement was issued by the Supervisory Boards following the decision by Louise Gunning to tender her resignation as president of the Executive Board of the University of Amsterdam and the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences.

The Supervisory Boards have taken note of the decision by Louise Gunning to resign as president of the Executive Board of the University of Amsterdam and the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences. The Supervisory Boards wish to express their immense gratitude for her tireless efforts for both institutions.

Since taking office on 1 April, 2012, Louise Gunning has provided powerful leadership to the University of Amsterdam and the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences. She was able to strengthen the position of both institutions considerably both at home and abroad. During her tenure, Gunning directed her energies to the internationalisation of the University of Amsterdam. She was at the birth of UvA Alumni Chapters in New York, Beijing, Shanghai and London. Gunning made a solid start with fundraising for AES grants for excellent Master’s students from outside the European Union. The Supervisory Boards are extremely grateful for her dedication to and involvement with the University of Amsterdam and the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences.

The Supervisory Boards are currently holding talks with all the relevant parties in order to find a broadly supported solution as soon as possible.
