The Executive Board’s standpoint regarding temporary appointments and contracts is that these must be drawn up in accordance with the spirit and letter of the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO NU) and the Work and Security Act (WWZ). To ensure that all faculties implement this in a clear and consistent manner, the Executive Board has, in consultation with Vice-Rector Edgar du Perron, decided to task Remko Koopman, confidential adviser on the legal status of individuals (VIR), with issuing binding recommendations regarding individual cases of temporary appointments or contracts.

Each member of staff who is employed, or was recently employed, via a temporary contract or appointment, and who holds the view that they are not being treated in accordance with the spirit and letter of the collective agreement and ruling Act, or considers their treatment to be unfair in another way, can turn to Mr Koopman for a binding recommendation.

Some individual decisions may be revised as a result of the consultations with Mr Koopman. In addition, on the basis of these consultations, he will issue a non-binding recommendation to the Executive Board on policy relating to temporary contracts and appointments.

Members of staff who would like to discuss their position can contact Remko Koopman by sending an email to or calling T:+31 (0)20 525 4357.
