Five subject areas at the University of Amsterdam (UvA) have made the worldwide top 100 of the 2015-2016 Times Higher Education World University Rankings by Subject. This is two more than last year.
Earlier this year it already became known that the UvA had risen in the overall 2015-2016 THE World University Rankings, from 77th to 58th place. The rankings by subject followed later, with different subject areas being published separately. The last one, Physical Sciences, appeared on Wednesday, 18 November.
Arts & Humanities have jumped from 45th place last year to the 30th spot this year. UvA Social Sciences remains the highest ranked in the Netherlands, in 32nd place (36th last year). Clinical, Pre-clinical and Health came in at 52 this year (47th place last year). Both Life Sciences and Physical Sciences have entered the top 100 of their subject area this year, with a 61st and 73rd position respectively. This gives Physical Sciences at the UvA the highest position in that area of all universities in the Netherlands.
THE publishes six top 100 rankings by subject. One of these, Engineering & Technology, is an area in which the UvA is not represented in terms of teaching and research.
The rankings by subject area are based on the same indicators as the overall rankings, but the weightings are adjusted according to the subject.
