The exact date of his appointment depends on when approval is officially received for an administrative merger between VUmc and the Academic Medical Center. This is expected to happen in 2016. Until such time, Eric Fischer will continue as acting dean of the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences.

‘Hans Brug is an exceptionally versatile researcher with extensive administrative experience. We are delighted that he is joining us’, says Prof. Dymph van den Boom, acting president of the UvA.

Hans Brug (1963) has been a member of the Board of Directors of VUmc since 1 January 2015. He joined the VUmc in 2007, where he was appointed as director of the EMGO institute for research into healthcare and health, head of department and division chairman, and more recently as vice-dean for scientific research. His appointment as member of the VUmc Board of Directors will continue until the administrative merger has taken place.

Brug studied nutritional sciences and epidimiology, among other subjects. He obtained his PhD in health sciences from Maastricht University. He has received much international recognition for his research work. He served as the president of the international scientific society in nutritional sciences and epidemiology and has held a visiting professorship at Deakin University in Melbourne, Australia.
