The Executive Board has appointed Maaike Lürsen as secretary general of the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (AUAS), effective 16 September. Lürsen succeeds Geke van Velzen.
As secretary general, Maaike Lürsen will primarily focus on supervising and coordinating administrative processes. She will hereby head the Executive Staff and ensure the coordinated execution of the strategic agenda of the joint UvA-AUAS Executive Board. Lürsen will work closely with Calluna Euving, who was appointed as secretary general of the University of Amsterdam (UvA) earlier this year.
‘Maaike Lürsen has worked at different institutions of higher education and has acquired extensive strategic and administrative experience through various positions. We are delighted at the prospect of using this experience for the benefit of the AUAS, and we look forward to working together’, says Prof. Geert ten Dam, president of the Executive Board.
Over the last few years Lürsen has held the post of director of operational management at the UvA’s Faculty of Science, where she was responsible for HRM, ICT, Facilities, Safety and Housing. Prior to this, she worked at the Municipality of Haarlemmermeer for almost ten years, first as team manager of strategic policy research and subsequently as board member and deputy secretary.
Lürsen is looking forward to her new post: ‘Amsterdam holds a special place in my heart. I truly feel like I belong at a knowledge institution such as the AUAS, which brings together many curious and passionate individuals. I know they will inspire me too.’
