The University of Amsterdam (UvA) and Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (AUAS) have taken note of the current situation in Turkey and stand ready to offer advice and support to their students and staff.
Like many sections of Turkish society, the failed coup attempt of Friday 15 July has also affected the education sector. As a result, students and staff of the UvA and AUAS, both in the Netherlands and Turkey, are currently being affected by the political situation in Turkey. The UvA and AUAS’s primary concern is for the members of their academic community.
The UvA and AUAS support the statements of the VSNU and the European University Association, which is also strongly supported by the League of European Research Universities. The UvA and AUAS are of the opinion that academic research and higher education are imminently international and that the principles of academic freedom are sacrosanct.
The UvA and AUAS stand ready to answer any questions and, where possible, offer support to UvA and AUAS students and staff. This also applies to Turkish students and staff in the Netherlands and those currently residing in Turkey.
UvA students and staff can contact the Student Service Desk (+31 20 525 8080 or by visiting the Student Service Desk, located at the central hall on the ground floor of Building E, Roetersstraat 11, 1018 WB Amsterdam).
Press enquiries can be directed to the UvA Press Office (email@example.com )
