The appointment came about in consultation with the Faculty Works Council and Faculty Student Council.

‘Agneta Fischer is a well-respected and experienced manager and researcher’, says Geert ten Dam, president of the UvA Executive Board and chair of the appointments advisory committee. ‘She is passionately committed to the UvA and has contributed greatly to the organisation. Her level of dedication was evident, for example, after the departure of Hans Brug, when she was willing to temporarily head the faculty. Agneta is doing a sterling job as dean and I am thrilled that she is willing to continue to lead the faculty in the coming years.’

‘I always knew the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences is the best and nicest faculty in the Netherlands. These last few months have only reinforced my view’, says Fischer. The faculty is richly blessed with an enormous variety of people, scientific views, ideas, opinions and emotions – there is never a dull moment. I am extremely pleased to have the chance to continue being the dean of such a dedicated group of people.’

The dean leads the faculty and is responsible for the faculty’s policy in the area of research and teaching, as well as its operational management. These responsibilities are executed in consultation with the teaching and research directors, the department chairs and the faculty’s director of operational management, and in close coordination with the faculty’s representative advisory bodies. One of the dean’s most important tasks will be to implement the faculty’s 2020-2025 strategy.
