The University of Amsterdam has been ranked 64th this year in the 2019/2020 QS World University Rankings. This is a drop of seven places compared to last year when the UvA was in 57th place. The ranking was published on Wednesday 19 June.

QS World University Ranking

The top spot for a Dutch University goes to Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) at number 50. The UvA and TU Delft are the only Dutch universities ranked in the top 100.

For the eighth year in a row, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) is ranked at number 1. The rest of the top-3 also consists of American universities: Stanford University at number 2, and Harvard at number 3.

Rankings by subject

QS published its World University Rankings by subject 2019 at the end of February. In this ranking, the UvA was listed in the global top-100 in 29 of the 48 subject areas defined by QS.

Methodology

The QS World University Rankings are compiled based on six criteria: academic reputation (40%), employer reputation (10%), citations per faculty (20%), student to faculty ratio (20%), international faculty ratio (5%) and international student ratio (5%).
