Earlier this year, the UvA was ranked 66th overall in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2020-2021.

High rankings for Psychology, Social Sciences and Law

Psychology has risen from 14th  to 12th place this year. Social Sciences also climbed up by two spots, from 23 to 21. Law is still placed 29th. Arts and Humanities has risen seven places, from 37 to 30. Clinical and Health has moved from 58 to 60. Education made a big leap, from 81 to 72. Computer Science has also climbed several spots, from 78 to 74. Business and Economics is ranked 80th, up four spots from last year.

There are a total of 11 subject areas in the THE top-100 rankings lists. In addition to the UvA’s eight top-100 spots, we are also ranked in the 101-125 group for the subject areas Life Sciences and Physical Sciences. This is a considerable jump for Life Sciences, which was ranked in the 151-175 groups last year. Physical Sciences was ranked in the 101-125 group last year. The only subject area for which the UvA hasn’t placed in the THE Subject Rankings is Engineering & Technology. This is because the UvA does not offer research or education in this subject area.

The rankings by subject area are based on the same indicators as the overall rankings, but the weightings are adjusted according to the subject.
