Three young scientists from the University of Amsterdam, four from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, and three from Amsterdam UMC have been appointed to AYA: the network of young scientists at VU, UvA, and Amsterdam UMC. On Tuesday, November 5, the ten members were inaugurated by VU rector Jeroen Geurts.

AYA is a network of promising young Amsterdam-based scientists who push the boundaries of their own fields of research. AYA was founded in 2018 by several Amsterdam-based members of the Young Academy (De Jonge Akademie) and is dedicated to interdisciplinary research, societal dialogue, and science policy.

The ten new members of this year are:

UvA (University of Amsterdam):

  • Micha Heilbron, Brain and Cognition (UvA Faculty of Social and Behavioral Sciences)
  • Alberto Pérez de Alba Ortíz, Van 't Hoff Institute for Molecular Sciences and Informatics Institute (UvA Faculty of Science, Mathematics, and Computer Science)
  • Gulnaz Sibgatullina, History, European Studies, and Religious Studies (UvA Faculty of Humanities)

Amsterdam UMC

  • Callista Mulder, Reproductive Biology (AUMC)
  • Elena Rampanelli, Experimental Vascular Medicine (AUMC)
  • Dirk Jan Stenvers, Endocrinology and Metabolism (AUMC)

VU (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam)
