The University of Amsterdam is developing a renewed buildings strategy. Due to developments such as hybrid working, declining student numbers and stricter sustainability targets, it has become necessary to reassess how and where we use space. Furthermore, some ongoing projects, such as in the University Quarter, have proven to be more expensive and more complicated than previously anticipated.

The reassessment of the Accommodations Plan has begun with discussions with faculties and service departments covering various scenarios, including consideration of costs and revenues, quality, sustainability, and the social value of buildings.

The goal is to make a well-considered decision about housing for the coming years by early 2026. Collaboration and transparency will remain central. The reassessment will be aligned with the Strategic Plan and will also affect agreements with the Municipality of Amsterdam within the Strategic Master Plan University Quarter.

Staff and students will be informed about the progress in the coming months. The representative advisory bodies will be included in the process. As soon as the impact on each location becomes clearer, students and external parties will also be informed.
