Five major Amsterdam educational institutions, including the University of Amsterdam, will sign the Pride University Manifesto on 12 December (Purple Friday). In doing so, they commit to providing structural support for their internal Pride networks over the next five years. The Pride University Manifesto provides a strong impetus for a more inclusive learning environment in which everyone feels welcome and at home.

Structural support for UvA Pride

By signing the manifesto, the UvA commits to supporting UvA Pride, the University’s Pride network, for the next five years. UvA Pride already received an annual financial contribution from the UvA, which will now become structural. In addition, the UvA has pledged staff support.

A major step towards more inclusive education

Jessica Fenenga, co-chair of UvA Pride: ‘By signing the Pride University Manifesto, the UvA is taking a significant step towards more inclusive education. UvA Pride will now have the space to continue to provide structural support to the LGBTQIA+ community. For example, we are committed to supporting international students who come to Amsterdam specifically to be themselves and to find their place.’
