Chaired by Louise Elffers, the Education Council is made up of members with varied backgrounds in education and research. Every two years, several council members are (re)appointed so that different perspectives come together in the council. Quincy Elvira has been appointed for a four‑year term.
"The impact of a good educator can be felt everywhere, from pre-vocational secondary education (vmbo) right through to university. My experience in leadership in schools and in training university lecturers helps me to bring a broad perspective on the education system to the Education Council. In this way, I hope to contribute to recommendations to enable education professionals to do their jobs even better."Quincy Elvira
Quincy Elvira has been affiliated with the University of Amsterdam (UvA) since 2018. He started as a subject specialist in teaching methodology for Economics and Business and, since 2020, has been working part time as educational adviser and teacher trainer at TLC Central, part of the UvA Teaching & Learning Centres network. Elvira is director of the Open Schoolgemeenschap Bijlmer. He obtained his PhD at Radboud University on the theme of Secondary education as a pathway towards professional expertise.
“This appointment shows just how relevant Quincy’s experience – including his role as director of the Open Schoolgemeenschap Bijlmer – is to national education policy,” says Mariska Min-Leliveld, director of TLC Central. “It is particularly significant that he brings both his practical expertise and research background for the professionalisation of UvA lecturers.”
Together with TLC trainer René Glastra van Loon, Elvira developed the UTQ+ track Mastery in Course Design. In this video, Elvira elaborates about this UTQ+ track.
