Prof. Gerard Mols has been appointed as a member of the Supervisory Board of the University of Amsterdam (UvA) by the Dutch Minister of Education, Culture and Science. In addition, Marleen Barth has been appointed as a member of the Supervisory Board of the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (AUAS/HvA). Both appointments take effect from 1 May 2013 and are for a term of four years.

The two appointments mark the first time that the representative advisory councils of the UvA and AUAS/HvA have made use of a new provision in the Dutch Higher Education and Research Act enabling them to nominate Supervisory Board candidates. Both the UvA and the AUAS/HvA representative advisory councils opted to nominate candidates who have a Teaching & Research profile, choosing Mols and Barth after an open selection procedure. As new Supervisory Board members, both appointees therefore enjoy ‘the exceptional confidence of the representative advisory bodies’.
