Evert Verhulp, professor of Labour Law, has been appointed chair of the Amsterdam Academic Club (AAC) effective 1 January 2014. He will succeed Prof. Mirjam van Praag, who has headed the AAC's new board over the last four years.
Maaike Ambags, director of the AAC, is enthusiastic about Verhulp’s appointment: 'We are currently going through an exciting period, with the Club now open to non-members. I am confident that Evert Verhulp will help us further professionalise and energise the AAC, and thereby attract new members and interested participants.’
Said Verhulp: ‘The Amsterdam Academic Club is becoming an increasingly dynamic meeting place for UvA academics. It is an honour to be asked to manage it, and I am certainly looking forward to it.’
On 19 December, the AAC will host a members evening at which Verhulp will be formally introduced.
Evert Verhulp (1964) is professor of Labour Law and academic director of the UvA´s Hugo Sinzheimer Institute. He holds various board and advisory positions, and in 2012 was appointed crown member of the Social and Economic Council of the Netherlands (SER).
The Amsterdam Academic Club is a UvA-based social club with more than 800 members. The Club is open on work days from noon until 22:00 and serves lunch, drinks and dinner. Activities include a weekly debate organised to forge links between the academic world, society and business sector, as well as informal Friday afternoon drinks with live music by various jazz bands.
